How the typing speed test works

Click into the box and start typing the passage. The timer starts on your first keystroke. As you type, each character is checked live — correct characters turn green, mistakes are highlighted, and your words per minute and accuracy update in real time. When the timer ends you get your final WPM, accuracy and a shareable result.

How is WPM calculated?

We use the worldwide standard: one "word" equals five characters. We count the correct characters you've typed, divide by five to get words, then divide by the minutes elapsed. This is the same method used by professional typing tests, so your score is comparable anywhere.

What counts as a good speed?

The average adult types about 38–40 WPM. Around 50–60 WPM is comfortable for most office work, 70+ is genuinely fast, and professional typists often clear 90 WPM. But speed without accuracy isn't useful — aim to keep accuracy at 95% or higher, then push your speed up from there.

Tips to type faster

Private by design: the typing test runs entirely in your browser. Your best score is saved only on your own device using local storage, and nothing you type is ever uploaded.
